Casey Thompson, who is a quarterback playing for Nebraska, submitted his transfer request. This makes it certain that Jeff Sims will take over as the starter when the Cornhuskers kick off Matt Rhule’s first season as head coach.
Casey Thompson’s Progress
After moving on from Texas, Casey Thompson played a starring role in 10 of the previous season’s 12 games. As a result of his recuperation from shoulder surgery performed during the off-season, he was unable to participate in spring practice. As a result, the majority of first-team plays were taken by Sims, who joined the Huskers in January after previously playing for Georgia Tech.
Following in the footsteps of Logan Smothers and Richard Torres, Casey Thompson became the third quarterback from Nebraska to enter the gateway. The remaining quarterbacks are Chubba Purdy, Sims, Heinrich Haarberg, and walk-on Jack Woche.
The first four years of Casey Thomspon’s college career were spent in Texas. He started 10 games and appeared in nine others. He finished the previous year at Nebraska as the starting quarterback and completed 63% of his throws for 2,407 yards, including three games in which he threw for 300 yards or more. Although the Huskers finished with a record of 4-8, he was responsible for 17 touchdown passes, 10 interceptions, and five rushing touchdowns. Because of his injuries, though, he had to sit out two games.
About Thompson’s Career
The first three years of Casey Thompson’s high school football career were spent at Southmoore High School, which is located in Moore, Oklahoma. Thompson attended his junior and senior years at Newcastle High School in Castle, Oklahoma, before transferring to Newcastle High School. On April 13th, 2017, he announced his intention to enroll in The University of Texas as a four-star recruit. Thompson spent his first two seasons at Texas as the reserve quarterback to Sam Ehlinger. He entered the 2020 Alamo Bowl after Ehlinger sustained an injury. Thompson completed 8-of-10 passes for 170 yards and four touchdowns in the 55-23 rout of the Colorado Buffaloes. His four touchdowns tied the Alamo Bowl mark.
